We performed an analysis of his website (www.biologicagfood.com.au) and discovered that most visitors had clicked through to his site after searching for “Maarten Stapper”. Unfortunately his site was not appearing on the first 10 pages of a Google search for “Dr Maarten Stapper”.

We employed a number measures to improve the client’s Google ranking and the number of click through visitors to the site -

• restructuring sections of the site to utilise SEO friendly URLs (web page names)
• designed a number of genuine satellite sites to target key phrases and support the main site
• provided the client with measures he could take to proactively improve his ranking via his existing business networks
• edited the text to utilize targeted key words and phrases
• plus many other measures +

Dr. Stapper’s site has since risen to the fourth page of search results (and is still improving) and the new satellite site appears at Number 1 for the selected search terms.

Use you domains email address for everything because you never know if the person receiving the mail may need your services. Potential customers can find your website from your email address whether you were trying to promote it or not. The recipient of your email will copy the website address (yourbusiness.com) from your email address (e.g. you@yourbusiness.com) and type it into their web browser.

I do understand why many new businesses continue to use their old email address (e.g. “yourname @gmail.com”,  ”yourbusiness @hotmail.com”, @yahoo, etc) - it can take a lot of time to transfer your address book, learn a new email system and remember a password but the biggest concern is that your existing customers are already familiar with your existing address and they may lose track of you.

Here are some solutions -

One option is to send a mass email to your entire address book and hope that everyone changes your details. This can look a bit like spam to some servers and get blocked and some customers may not appreciate an unsolicited email.

Luckily, in most cases there is no need to discard your old email address so you can ween your client list onto your new address.

Step 1. Redirect all email to one “Inbox”.

Most email providers give you the option to “redirect” or “forward” all of the emails received in your old inbox to the new email address (or vice versa). The obvious advantage here is that you only have to check one inbox.

Step 2. Reply with the new email address.

Always respond/reply with the new email address (featuring your domain name). This way the customer will recognize the subject and trust the new email immediately.

Step 3. Create an email “signature”.

Put your new email address in the “signature” of your emails. This is the text that appears below your name at the end of an email -

You may like to refer to the new email in the body of the email for a few months after the change or if you contact someone for the first time in while (e.g. please note my new email address below)

Eventually, all of your email will arrive via the new account, you’ll appear more professional and simply sending an email could result in a new customer.

Most visitors will click “back” and leave your site for ever . . . unless you provide them with a Custom 404 Page. It shows that your care about them, and offers a few options to help them find what they are looking for.

If you do not have a custom 404 page a visitor to your site will probably see the internet browser’s or your hosting service provider’s ugly default “Page not found” page – see below.

Why do i need a custom “404″ page?

Most visitors will hit the “back” button if they are confronted with the default 404 page, leaving your website.

A custom 404 pages is a great way to retain visitors to your site and help them find what they were origionally looking for.

You can provide vistors with a range of options including links to your home page, search or a list of services.

How do I check?

Type in a url to a page you know does not exist on your website (ei www.yoursite.com.au/not-a-page.html ).

If the result looks like those below, you do not have a Custom 404 Page.
